Shambhavi Anand was in a live-in relationship for 2-years while working at IBM in Bangalore.

literally had to be dragged to 1. She justified it by saying, ”No need
to worry, I have done this
before. I will take a pill & it will be sorted.”
When the reports came back, the doctor informed her that she was already 3-months pregnant.
Shambhavi kept insisting, "I don't want the baby, I want to do MBA. Relax, I will take a pill. This isn't the first time, for me."
Soon, in October '15, she went back home to New Delhi to her family for 2-months while she was going to prepare for CAT & other Management Schools entrance exams. She, yet again, REFUSED to "take the pill" while in Bangalore & claimed "I know a Chemist Store guy, I promise I will do the needful." Even though she was reminded that she would be surrounded by family all the time & it might be difficult for her to handle the situation on her own, Shambhavi did nothing at all & left.
While in Delhi, she was repeatedly asked whether she had "dealt with it." Shambhavi kept giving reasons, "I was busy today,didn't have the time." "My father's birthday is coming up, I'm busy planning the party." etc
Finally, 1-day, she mentioned that she had taken a pill. Apparently, there had been some 'bleeding' & "there was a lump I flushed down the toilet",....."it is done". Shambhavi was asked to visit a doctor to get confirmation OR even say the name of the medicine she had consumed. She REFUSED saying, "I KNOW it has been done. Don't worry!"
Then she came back to Bangalore, life went on.
One evening in January '16, she started complaining about Massive stomach pain. Shambhavi took an OTC medication for the pain & it seemed to work,however it was relief for only a short period of time. She couldn't sleep that night, was moaning & crying due to the pain.
Finally, around 0530hrs in the morning, she was taken to Manipal Hospital. There wasn't anyone there in the ER then & the intern on duty said we would have to wait till the doctor came in the morning. Soon, Shambhavi's pain started increasing & she was shrieking at the top of her voice,"Doctor, give me morphine, it hurts too much."
After a while, the intern on duty did an UltraSound & it was discovered that Shambhavi was 6-months pregnant. Her "stomach pain" was actually because she was "in labour". Her boyfriend, who had taken her to the Hospital was STUNNED. Of all the possible reasons for her Stomach Pain, he hadn't even considered this.
When the consulting Ob-Gyn, Dr. Amrita Rao, arrived, Shambhavi was taken to a "Delivery Room"
where she delivered a 660gm dead female foetus.
The hospital staff threatened her boyfriend with Police/Legal action assuming that he had forced her into a "DIY, at-home" abortion. Only when Shambhavi confessed that she had never taken any medication OR had done anything to abort the child earlier, did they relent.
Shambhavi had to stay overnight at the Hospital, in the Maternity Ward. Her boyfriend stayed with her throughout because he didn't want to leave her alone. He had heard that women go through "emotional trauma" after such an experience. Funnily, he didn't see any signs of it in her except for "I don't remember anything, I don't want to talk about it. It's done, that's the end of it." She saw the corpse before it was packed into a box for "disposal", even wanted him to see it but he refused knowing he wouldn't be able to face that.
Dr. Rao was kind enough to deliberately misrepresent the facts in the Final Report & say "was unaware she was pregnant" so that Shambhavi could claim Medical Insurance reimbursement from IBM & to avoid any future legal problems as beyond the 20-weeks limit, even the woman is liable for a "miscarriage"
"Under Section 312 of Indian Penal Code, causing a miscarriage, even if caused by the pregnant woman herself, is a criminal offense, unless it is done to save the life of the woman."
According to Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, 1971 :-
"It is permissible to get an abortion IF pregnancy is under 20-weeks. However, it is subject to several conditions and the ability to get an abortion will depend on the opinion of the doctor.
Conducting an abortion without fulfilling the conditions is considered a crime."

Finally, in May '16, she was categorically told "IF you don't want to keep the baby, either do something or move out"
In June, she visited Dr. Geetha at Cloud 7 Healthcare who did an Ultrasound & informed Shambhavi that she was already 5-months pregnant, even showed her the baby's heartbeat.
The doctor was really nice,....she explained everything to Shambhavi & her boyfriend (who had gone along) about the various options available i.e., medication, "forced labour", even "D & C" etc as well as the possible effects/consequences of each. She even asked Shambhavi whether she wanted to keep the Ultrasound photos etc.
Shambhavi refused,..... "I don't want the baby, I intend on doing an MBA."
Her boyfriend specifically asked about the "20-week limit" & the doctor reassured him that, with her, there would be no repercussions etc. because everything would be done "quietly, hush-hush" otherwise even the doctor could get into trouble.
At the end of that doctor's appointment, Shambhavi told Dr. Geetha that she would think about everything discussed that day & would come back. Then, left.
Yet, Shambhavi didn't go back to the doctor.
When asked "Do you want to keep the baby?", her answer would always be a resounding "NO".
When pressed "Why haven't you done anything about it, then?" she would always reply, "It's my problem, I will deal with it myself." Even though she knew about the previous time when her boyfriend had been threatened with Police/legal action by the staff at Manipal Hospital,.... SHE WASN'T BOTHERED.
On 7th August 2016, Shambhavi woke up fairly early & said,"I'm going to the doctor, Geetha."
Her boyfriend insisted on going alone with her, & it was a good thing that he did, as within 5-minutes of reaching the doctor's office,..... (it was a Sunday & the doctor had specifically come in ONLY for Shambhavi) her boyfriend was asked by the doctor's assistant to "get a blanket & a change of clothes" for Shambhavi as it would be an "induced labour" since the baby was already at 7-months. He went back home, got everything that was asked for, returned to the doctor & gave them all while he was asked to wait outside in the Reception Area. He could hear Shambhavi's screams from the Examination Room but had been specifically told not to go inside there.
After a while, there was absolute silence. The doctor's assistant, (a girl named Aisha) came out & asked Shambhavi's boyfriend to come inside the Examination Room with her as the doctor, Geetha, wanted to speak with him.
He went inside, Shambhavi was lying naked from the waist down on the blanket laid down on the doctor's examination table facing the wall with a pair of clamps between her legs holding something bloody. Apparently, it was the "placenta", also known as the afterbirth, & the clamps were necessary for proper removal. There was a table in front of him with the baby (it was, once again, a girl) lying on a steel tray on top. The doctor was on the other side of the table. She looked at him & said, "the baby was born alive but won't live beyond couple of hours due to an under-developed respiratory system."
The guy had to lean on the wall behind to keep himself from falling down.
He looked down at the table & couldn't believe his eyes. A tiny little thing, with perfectly formed hands-&-feet, a few wisps of crinkly black hair on top. He could see her chest rise-&-fall, desperately seeking air to breathe & failing.
He asked the doctor about incubators etc,..... he had heard Urban Legends about babies being born 2-3 months premature & surviving due to incubators & ICU care etc.
The doctor told him, "Sure, I can arrange for an incubator but do you really want that? After all, Shambhavi is here today BECAUSE she didn't want the baby.
Besides, it's no guarantee that the incubator etc will work & y'all just might be left with unnecessary medical expenses with nothing to show for it in the end."
He had no reply, he just didn't know what to say !!
As expected, the baby died in a couple of hours.
The proof of this is a Citibank Debit Card payment of INR40,000 (& more for the "proper disposal" of the corpse) from a card in the name of Shambhavi Anand (her IBM salary account)
Later, when he narrated his experience to some others, he was told that :-
(1) Even IF the doctor had been able to arrange for ICU care for the baby, it would have created a storm for her as well for Shambhavi;
&
(2) Given today's sexually charged environment of #MeToo & "Gender Inequality" (as well as India's gender-biased laws), ALL Shambhavi would need to do would be to claim that she wanted to keep the baby but he forced her not to,..... Thus, he would land in trouble because the Police/Courts etc would obviously prefer to believe in her words, first.
Shambhavi's attitude has ALWAYS been (& still is),..... "Nothing really happened, so what's the Big Deal?"
Her ENTIRE family is aware of this, her father, Atul Mehta; mother, Anita Verma; elder sister, Tanya Anand; brother-in-law, Saket Kumar; Priyanka Anand, a relative who, on Facebook, proudly claims to be associated with Delhi Commission For Women. (Obviously, protecting Women's Rights also means protecting the woman when she breaks the law, especially when she's related)
They took the collective decision to send her to Canada, getting her out of the country to "protect" her as well as their "reputation" because her father had always told her to "do whatever you want so long as nobody finds out".
Ironically, according to Shambhavi Anand (as well as her family & her ENTIRE "social circle") it is perfectly "normal/acceptable/okay" to do something morally wrong (& legally a crime) but Heaven Forbid if anybody gets to know about it.
